Hello folks,
Sorry for not keeping you posted as I should have done. I got a little busy and could not catch up. In any case, the follow-up at the police turned out to be frightening.
The case took an about turn especially when the victimized woman lost her unborn child. The doctors said they did all but could not rescue the baby for he had endured so much shock during the fight that disrupted the gestation process. This was a little too much for the woman to bear; sadness engulfed all of her world and it’s only now that she’s beginning to fell better. It took much energy from me and the advice of many other good will people to stop her from filling for a divorce.
The husband on the other side has not had it easy with the police; first of all he was locked up for what I would call charges of murder. The investigations brought out some hidden but horrible facts about the man. He has a track record of beating women haphazardly. In the past, he’s had the wife beaten four times, has had the junior brother’s wife beating including his elder sister. At one time, he even slapped the friend’s wife when she opposed him openly during a community development meeting. Findings showed that he has fought with a female colleague in the past at his jobsite and was even suspended some time again for punching another female colleague. He’s been paying quiet some indemnities as a consequence of his actions.
I contacted a local human rights organization that is currently taking actions towards correcting this ill in him starting with him making and open request for forgiveness to the wife in which is he had to promise in the presence of many witnesses never to get any closer to slapping a woman in the future let alone the wife.
To say the least, the whole situation is under control now. But where do we go from here? I went reflecting on this and resolved to harness the energies of all those who stand against domestic violence against women in my community. I’m currently working on a drama scripts that would highlight the repercussions of domestic violence especially on women and children hoping to be able to gain the support of the national human rights commission to support such efforts.
A hotline is currently under creation that would receive complains of instances of domestic violence against women and children in the community for corrective action.
Any one with some ideas on how we can best workout this or work together in this domain? Your suggestions are welcome
